GRAIN ROT Multiplayer Guide: How Co-op Works
What the official store confirms about co-op, plus a practical launch-week squad workflow.

In this field note
GRAIN ROT supports online co-op on Steam as well as single-player. Its co-op is built into the extraction loop rather than added as a separate score mode: friends leave the Outpost together, ride the cursed elevator, search shifting ruins, process furniture and try to return with the haul. The official description warns that if every player’s vessel is destroyed, the collected loot is lost.
Form the group before touching the elevator
The launch-week beginner walkthrough shows an invite interaction at the Outpost that opens an invite window. The transcript does not show whether that window is Steam Overlay, an in-game list or another flow, and it does not document the later selection steps. Use the current on-screen prompt and finish grouping in the safe preparation area before touching the elevator.
Steam confirms online co-op, but the public store metadata does not document every lobby option. Menu labels can change. Treat the observed invite flow as version-sensitive and prefer the current Outpost UI if it differs from the video.
Divide work without splitting the team
Editorial coordination suggestion: keep track of the return route, inspect nearby containers and move valuable objects toward processing. This role split synthesizes the official extraction loop and the retained player videos; it is not directly tested as an optimal formation. Rotate responsibilities as rooms and enemies change, and treat spacing advice as version-sensitive rather than a fixed class system.
Read modifiers as a group decision
The player-observed modifier guide identifies fifteen launch-week effects. Gold Rush and Heavy Machinery reward aggressive processing; Surveyed gives route information; Power Outage makes a missing fuse the first objective; Lights Out changes visibility; Rot Bloom adds a corruption timer. Say the modifier names aloud before the doors open and agree on the priority. A squad that reads the same panel but follows four private plans is not cooperating.
Understand the shared wipe risk
Steam’s official description says the run’s loot is lost if all vessels are destroyed. A spark leaving one body does not automatically mean the entire attempt is over, but it should trigger a regroup. Avoid sending every player into the same blind doorway, and do not let a small pile of furniture pull the whole squad away from an operable elevator.
A simple co-op rhythm
Editorial rhythm suggestion: start with a short sweep, restore the fuse if required, process one safe batch, then reassess health, tools and the route home. Make the next push only if the team still has a recovery margin. This complete rhythm synthesizes official stakes and player observations; it was not directly tested by the retained sources.
Evidence status: online co-op, the Outpost/extraction loop and shared loss condition are Steam-confirmed. The invite-button location and explicitly stated Modifier strategy are player-observed as of August 10, 2026; that evidence does not include the editorial role split or full co-op rhythm.
